N.A.S.A. - Hip Hop feat. KRS-One, Fatlip & Slim Kid Tre (Grant Phabao Remix)
(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-03-07
Gimme gimme gimme some o'that... Reggay reggay! The vibe he received from the fine people of N.A.S.A. (Squeak E. Clean + DJ Zegon), after sending them a skanking reggae remix of their Money< track, pushed Grant Phabao to rework another track from their Spirit of Apollo album. Hip Hop feat. KRS-One, Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre is one of the coolest tributes to real hip-hop from the last years. The trick was to add a full Jamaican dubby smile to the whole, upload the mp3... and let you enjoy this exclusive remix - straight from the vaults of Paris DJs!
Released 28th Februrary 2011, Simmerdown is the first single to be lifted from the new Nostalgia 77 album, The Sleepwalking Society. Both the album and this single feature the stunning vocals of Josa Peit. The album is out 21st March 2011. Grant Phabao has cooked last week a reggae remix of this track featuring some guest keys by none other than the amazing Marco Benevento… to be released later on Tru Thoughts
Carlton Livingston is one of the great, sort of lost singers of the early eighties dancehall scene. He's just released a new album, Bridge of Life and it's a killer. Under the production of Grant Phabao, Carlton's smooth style and voice made this album full of both dancehall mashers and lovers tunes. The sound is a cross between Groundation and more traditional 70's reggae from the island. Here's a selection of some of his earlier hits mixed with a few tracks from this new album.

The Echocentrics - Sunshadows
(CD/2xLP/Download) Ubiquity Records URCD286, 2011-04-11
"The Echocentrics is a new project of psychedelic, cinematic and dusty soul produced by Adrian Quesada (Brownout/Ocote Soul Sounds/Grupo Fantasma). Loads of spring reverb, psyched out farfisa organs and heavy drums are accented by beautiful vocals sung in English, Spanish and Portuguese by Tita Lima from Brazil and Natalia Clavier from Argentina. Inspired by the music of Serge Gainsbourg, Curtis Mayfield, Tim Maia, The Lijadu Sisters, Los Pasteles Verdes, Terry Callier, John Lennon, Shuggie Otis, Ennio Morricone, etc., the original seeds to this record were planted almost 5 years ago with a gang of instrumentals Adrian began writing in the laid back and psyched out soul/funk vein...
The album will be out on Ubiquity Records April '11, with a limited edition 7" vinyl single coming in the next couple of months. Grant Phabao, without any doubt the greatest reggae producer in the world today, has already two skanking remixes on their way... while Adrian Quesada is preparing on his side some remixes for Grant Phabao's upcoming album with The Jays, Stepping up In Time. Something's happening here!"
Black Magic - Hard 2 Find Vol.5
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI019, 2010-12-20
An artistic revolution has been ongoing these recent years in Paris, with some unique producers breathing new life into the idea of jazz music, upping the standards of sound and production to those of the masters - Miles Davis, Lee Perry, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, Traffic and the such...
From the message-intense material, impressionistic soundscapes and folk musings of Doctor L to the dancefloor-filling cosmic afro and soulful roots reggae vibes of Grant Phabao, the Colored-Inc. collective has managed to create a solid universe, showcasing the many facets of the jazz spectrum in the shape of a free-minded label, undoubtly this year's most ambitious one.
Black Magic is their fifth experience in cooperative expression, a voodoo-themed concept album of music suitable for the dancefloor or the living room, a fresh wave of Jazz, Soul, Afro & Reggae production, untangling the scribble of the wicked world with clarity and maturity, and bringing Paris back to its rightful place, the cultural center of the world.

Brownout - Aguilas and Cobras - Remixed and Regrooved
(Download/limited CD) Six Degrees Records, 2010-12-07
Brownout, the Psychedelic Latin Funk alter ego of Grupo Fantasma, heated up dance-floors and critic's lists around the world with last year's Aguilas & Cobras record. The group's trademark soulful beats, psychedelic guitar excursions, tough grooves and ultra-tight horn arrangements have now been handed over to a dream team of remixers from the electronic dance, funk, cumbia & nu-groove scene, resulting in Aguilas & Cobras Remixed & Re-Grooved. Remixers include J Boogie, The Mexican Dubwiser, Tal M. Klein, Kokolo's Ray Lugo, Second Sky & Thomas Blondet, Jeremy Sole, Senor Oz, Afrolicious, Anthony Mansfield, Grant Phabao & CaZ.
Limited Edition CD: The CD version of Brownout's Aguilas & Cobras Remixed and Regrooved is now available as a hand stamped and numbered limited edition release (100 copies only!), available at the Six Degrees Shop and at Brownout live shows.
Feedback :
"There are two standouts: the first by Grant Phabao, who cut his teeth on dub and reggae and never stopped sharpening. He gives "Pole Position" a stellar irie vibe with the best beat on this collection." - Derek Beres - huffingtonpost.com
You can trust me Xmas this year will be funky!! For a fresh look on the gospel word expressed through electro-funk, banghra beats, jingle-jangle electro-jazz and a bit of hip hop on the side... Don't miss Noelectro and its merry christmas electro-jazz grooves!
Gathered around the Christmas tree, the T.I.M.E.C. artists have worked on a very hot album! You'll find all your favourite characters: the donkey, the ox, the reindeers, the Turkey, and baby Jesus… let us sing together: "Joy to the world! The Compilation is come!"
Or else, if you have some interests in a new and more refreshing, approach of the gospel's message expressed via electro-funk of the machines and samplers' era, or if you're simply interested in funk in all shapes, this album has especially been made for you.
In order to fulfil this eternal need of spirituality that always strikes you at the end and at the beginning of the year, the Détendu Laboratories have selected for you the ice-cream of Christmas electro (without forgetting the traditional Christmas pudding with a cover of "Jingle Bells" revisited by Mister K. & The Fabulous…) to bring you happiness, Christmas spirit and snowballs.
That's how the artists of the T.I.M.E.C. collective, as real Santas, have created in their studio the ultimate formula: revisited tradition + Christmas wishes with an out-of-step humor = satisfying holidays.
Here are the first signs that have been observed on a sample of the population, after the first listening of this album:
• An increase of the good vibrations felt in their red (and white) globules
• A spreading party spirit
• An irresistible desire to offer presents
(NOELECTRO would even stop untimely snow-storms!!!
So don't hesitate to get a prescription for this album at your usual CDs store to finally enjoy the holiday season in total harmony with your innerself.
Direction for use : Auditive routes. Posology : Listen in the morning, at lunch-time and every evening every day in December and January. Continue during the rest of the year if necessary. Recommanded by the Détendu Laboratories and tested by Tino Rosso (es-Christmas specialist). Respect the dosage, an excessive dose can cause euphoria, very briefly at the beginning, but that will soon spread in a communicative hilarity… You've been warned.
The Drug Store - Hard 2 Find Vol.4
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI009, 2010-09-06
The Drug Store is the first venture for the Colored-Inc. label into Psychedelic Folk & Rock vibes. Blending Nigerian harmonies with American Folk and Jazz, Reggae chants with Stoner Rock and Hip Hop beats or Nyabinghi percussions, freaky electronics with Afrobeat or deep poetry, James Bond-like arrangements with 21st century Chicago Soul, and inviting some famous Zulu Nation King & MC to a deep garage-blues session, this is indeed a kind of a Multi-Colored Thing, a nearly hallucinatory record pushing the Colored-Inc. label's identity towards more edgy forms of African, Carribean and Afro-American music.
Production duties by Erik Rug (3), Doctor L (1,4,6,8,10), and Grant Phabao (2,5,7,9), with star guesting Amayo from the Fu-Arkist-Ra and Allonymous (USA), Kiala Nzavotunga and Tony Allen (from Nigeria), The Jays (from Jamaica), Le Damn Dog, Kactus Hunters, The Joslyns and The Farell Girls (from Paris)

The legendary wave tune Echo Beach by the Canadian combo Martha & The Muffins is back on earth. Germany's finest (as far as progressive sounds and flows are concerned) dub label, named Echo Beach and inspired by the lyrics and spirit of that track, has set out to pay tribute to this song which is more than a classic. The first mix/remix of Echo Beach, done by Reverend E.C.H.O. and released on the Echo Beach sampler Various Artists: Far Away In Time has already enjoyed a strong reputation world wide. Marki Gane, the original composer of Echo Beach and still a member of M & M (aka Martha & Muffins) - and by the way, also married to Martha Johnson (lead singer of the band M&M) - enthused: "It sounds as if the orignal ECHO BEACH was shot into outer space, hit a planet and floated back to earth in pieces...!!!" NOW - 30 years later - after Echo Beach was written - the Echo Beach label proudly presents the 30th Anniversary Remixes and the full and essentiel: ... it is one of those tunes that on first hearing you like, but can't exactly place why, and by 30 seconds into the spin you´re close to falling in love. You just have to go with it and this seductively simple number is just that. Don´t try to understand it just accept this as love at first sight.

The third one, El Diablo Y El Ñau Ñau Grant Phabao Remix, is exclusively available here on ParisDjs.com, for free!! Antipop Consortium - Lay Me Down (Grant Phabao Remix)
(Exclusive remix) Paris DJs, 2010-08-10
Recorded in July 2009, this remix is both official and unreleased. Produced par the international master of roots reggae Grant Phabao with Earl Blaize during a visit from the latter to Grant's studio in Paris. The track reinstates a chorus which didn't make the final cut on the album Fluorescent Black. The resulting remix is... quite pop and a surefire radio hit! A heresy for a band called Anti-Pop Consortium!! Consequently, only a small part of this remix is available, blended in a Ninja Tune mix on the cult website Paris DJs (20 Years of Remixes and Re-interpretations - Selected by Djouls). Get the complete info here and download the mix here.
Grant Phabao & The Lone Ranger - Sweet Talking
(Digital/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI008, 2010-08-10
The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Thanks to the incredible production skills of French dubmeister Grant Phabao, who crafted for him a splendid album in 2005 (Kulchaklash / to be pronounced "Culture Clash"), and a hit single in 2006 making waves all over the irie globe, with rub-a-dub partner Carlton Livingston and their cover of Dandy Livingston's Message To You Rudie, The Lone Ranger is now back with his 12th album, Sweet Talking, and another big step towards bringing back the golden age of rub-a-dub!
